Judo Olympian Sophie Cox Lands Deal With Fuji Sports

Fuji Sports and Fightstore Pro launched a project to collaborate with some of the UK’s top talent, and the first slot couldn’t have been filled by a more deserving and prestigious athlete. Fighting Fit Manchester’s Sophie Cox, a two-time Judo Olympian, has been welcomed aboard the team and will be representing Team Fuji moving forward. Cox represented Team GB at the 2004 Olympics games in Athens, and returned from a five-year hiatus to medal in the Judo World Cup and the Europeans, thereby earning herself a spot on the Olympic roster once again for London 2012. A ferocious competitor, Cox has since kept the form going with a gold in the British Championships and a Silver in the European Cup. Now a coach and mentor, she is also moving forward in her Brazilian Jiu Jitsu career, competing in the European Open at blue belt and never stagnating in her martial arts journey. This work ethic and hybrid of styles made Sophie the perfect candidate to team up with Fuji Sports, alongside the likes of Ronda Rousey, Rick Hawn and Royler Gracie.

"I'm really looking forward to competing in my first euros," said the Rochdale-based athlete. "I know it's a top quality competition with world class competitors so it'll be a good arena to test myself in. I'm hoping for a medal and a good performance. I can then look at competing more often on the international circuit. It's great to be able to represent my gym Fighting Fit and CFS BJJ. Hopefully I'll be able to use a bit of judo but I'm not counting on it!" Fuji Sports’ Jimmy Pedro, himself an Olympian with two bronze medals, recognised the qualities Sophie would bring to the team, and said, “Worldwide, Fuji aligns itself with athletes who are passionate about the pursuit of excellence and who commit 100% of themselves to their sport while also giving back to others. We are delighted that Sophie has come on board as an athlete spokesperson, and joins fellow judoka Kayla Harrison and Travis Stevens as part of the Team.” Alex Wright is the head of Fuji Sports’ UK distributors Fightstore Pro, and will be working closely with Sophie and her team. On the exciting new deal, he offered, "Sophie is a great athlete and fits so well with the tradition and ethos of the Fuji brand. She was an obvious fit, even with a few parallels with Fuji's other judo and MMA superstar Ronda Rousey. We're looking forward to working with her and her Fighting Fit Team in Manchester. Cox was also happy to find a home with such a revered company that can boast the highest level of athletes both in their management and on their sponsorship roster. “It's fantastic to be representing Fuji having been selected to be one of their sponsored athletes. They supply top quality gear suitable for those competing at the highest level and I'm looking forward to building our relationship in the future." Fuji Sports’ success internationally continues to build, and alongside Fightstore Pro they are focusing on bringing their high-end, athlete-tested gis and equipment to the UK and European markets. Both companies choose to work alongside partners that share their passion for quality, and they are now sponsoring athletes that have the same commitment.
